Enhanced Lot Tracking
While standard Dynamics NAV gives the user the ability to define lot tracking requirements for an item, the program permits considerable flexibility when entering lot numbers on transaction lines. For example, the user has the ability to record a lot number for an item that is received via an inbound transaction, but leave this information blank when posting the same item on an outbound transaction.
Food Manufacturing & Distribution requires a stricter level of lot control. If an item has been designated as lot controlled, the program automatically creates a lot number information record whenever a new item lot enters the inventory. Additional adjustments require that a lot number must be assigned to every transaction line on which a lot controlled item is entered. This enforces a greater level of traceability for lot controlled items, and also provides more accurate inventory information on a lot by lot basis.
In addition to stricter lot tracking requirements, there are a number of additional features that can be implemented with regard to lot control. The following table describes these features, with links to the topics that describe them.
