How to: Create a Sub-Lot
It is sometimes necessary to reclassify a portion of a lot into a new lot. This is typically done because that portion of a lot (perhaps in a bin or a container) has been subjected to environmental conditions that has given it different characteristics than the rest of the lot. This is referred to as a sub-lot and this wizard assists in that process of creating the sub-lot.
The wizard proceeds in 7 steps
1. Specify the Lot – This consists of specifying the item number, variant code (if the item has variants), and the lot number.
2. Specify the Location – A sub-lot can only be created with the material at a single location. If more than one location is required, then it will be necessary to run the wizard for each location and crate separate sub-lots for each location. In addition to the location code, it is also possible to specify a bin and a container to further limit the material to be reclassified.
3. Specify the Quantity to Reclass – For each bin and container (or loose quantity) holding the lot the quantity to reclassify must be specified. Additionally, if the item is set to “Catch Alternate Quantities” then the alternate quantity to reclassify must also be specified. Reclassification quantity is typically specified for the base unit of measure. But for locations that support directed picks and put-aways or for material in containers it may be necessary to specify the quantity to reclassify for different units of measure.
4. Specify What to do with Open quality Control Activities – If there are any open quality control activities for the lot then it is necessary to specify which of them should be copied to the new sub-lot. Completed quality control activities are always copied to the new sub-lot and if there are no completed activities then at least one of the open activities must be copied to the new sub-lot. This step is skipped if there are no open quality control activities for the lot.
5. Specify the New Lot Number and Posting Data
- Lot – The lot number for the sub-lot must be specified. It will default to the original lot number with a integer flowed by a hyphen added to it. For example, if the original lot number is “LOT1234” then the default sub-lot number will be “LOT1234-1”. It is possible to also assign a new lot number using the lot assignment method established for the item. It is also possible to specify a new Lot Status code for the sub-lot.
- Posting – A posting date (default to WORKDATE) and document number (default from "Chg. Lot Status Document Nos.” in inventory setup) must be specified for the reclassification entries that will be created. Additionally, a reason code may be specified.
6. Specify the Number of New Labels to Print – If the item has been setup for printing of item case labels, then the user may specify the number of labels to print. This step is skipped if there is no label setup for the item.
7. Confirm the Creation of the Sub-Lot – This step displays a summary of the specifications entered in the previous steps and the “Finish” action will proceed with the posting of the reclassification.
The wizard can be run directly or from the item card or list or the lot information card or list. When run from the lot information pages, then the first step of the wizard is skipped.
