How to: Set Up the Warehouse for Replenishment Areas
Replenishment areas give you a more flexible way to manage production picking and reporting activities in a warehouse environment. In order to use this functionality, you must first set up a number of parameters in your warehouse locations.
To use the replenishment area functionality, you must activate bin management on the location card.
To activate bin management
In the Search box, enter Locations, and then choose the related link.
Select the location where you want to use replenishment areas. On the Home tab, in the Manage group, choose Edit.
On the Warehouse FastTab, select the Bin Mandatory field.
If you are using the location for put-aways and picks (either internal or directed), select the necessary fields.
You do not need to fill in any other fields on the location card until later in the setup process.
You cannot set up the warehouse to use bins (which is part of replenishment areas) when the location has open item ledger entries.
The next step is to set up the location for bins. If you are using the location for directed put-aways and picks, you must set up zones and other records in addition to bins. In addition to standard zones and bins, you must set up a replenishment zone, and within that zone there must be one inbound and one outbound bin for each replenishment area you want to set up.
Do not assign bins in the Inbound Production Bin Code and Outbound Production Bin Code fields on the Bins FastTab of the location card.
Once these additional records have been defined, you must return to the location card and identify it as a replenishment location.
To define a replenishment location
- In the Search box, enter Locations, and then choose the related link.
- Select the location where you want to use replenishment areas. On the Home tab, in the Manage group, choose Edit.
- Open the relevant Location card. On the Bin Policies FastTab, select the Require Replenishment Area field.
- If you have set up zones in your warehouse, fill in the Replenishment Zone Code field with the zone that contains the bins you wish to assign to replenishment areas.
You are now ready to set up replenishment areas. A replenishment area is a specific place in which production activities are carried out within a location. If there are multiple places in a location in which production occurs, you can set up a replenishment area for each one. Replenishment areas can also make production reporting easier, as consumption is posted directly from a replenishment area's inbound bin.
To set up a replenishment area in a location
In the Search box, enter Locations, and then choose the related link.
Select the location where you want to use replenishment areas. On the Home tab, in the Manage group, choose Edit.
On the Navigate tab, in the Location group, choose Replenishment Areas.
In the Replenishment Areas window, fill in the Code and Description fields for each replenishment area you want to operate.
Assign an inbound and outbound bin to each replenishment area.
If you have set up zones in your warehouse, the bins that are assigned to a replenishment area must be within the location's defined replenishment zone.
You can then set up the following:
- Default replenishment areas for production items, see How to: Assign Items to Replenishment Areas.
- Fixed production bins for items that are consumed directly from a storage bin, see How to: Assign Items to Fixed Production Bins.
- Replenishment areas for any processing activities that must be performed on materials before they can be used in production, see Pre-Process Activities.
