About Labeling

The labeling tools provided in Food Manufacturing & Distribution allow you to automate the process of label printing.
You can develop codes for your different label formats, then assign these codes to records, such as items or containers.
This gives you the ability to assign different labels to the same type of record. For example, the information you include on a container label may depend on the container type.
Using label codes, you can define a code for each container label format, then assign the appropriate code to each container record.
When you print the label for a container, the program automatically uses the format associated with the assigned label code.

You can also set up codes for your various label printers, then use these codes in conjunction with other parameters to automate printer selection for label printing.
For example, if you assign a printer to a particular label code, then run a process that instructs the program to print the label that is associated with that label code,
the label will automatically print from the defined printer.
In addition to label codes, you can assign label printers to specific user IDs. If you are printing labels in conjunction with automated data capture transactions,
you can associate these transactions to label printers, as well.
Label printer selection can be defined in different combinations (a label printer assigned to a particular user for a certain label format, for example).

Loftware Integration

Some companies find that label design through a Labeling solution such as Loftware labeling solution is preferable to developing Business Central reports.
You can set up label codes for labels that are developed in Loftware in the same manner as you would for Business Central labels.
Although the specific steps are slightly different, the general process is still the same.
For example, when you set up a label code, you associate it to a Loftware label format file rather than a Dynamics report.

As with Business Central labels, the label codes you design for Loftware labels may be assigned to other system records.
You can use these codes in conjunction with other printing parameters as part of label printer selection definition, as well.
