How To : Process an Engineering Change Order

Once the Engineering Change Order is created from the EC Staging line it can be processed. The moment of processing is important and should be carefully coordinated with the stakeholders in the process.

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature icon (Alt+Q)
  2. Type Engineering Change Orders to open the list
  3. Click Edit to open the order. The ECO has the following tabs:

General

NOTE The header information is not editable.

Filter Line Details

Filters the lines in the Eng. Change Order Subform

  • Show All to show all three line types
  • Existing Values: to show the values from the existing record
  • Staging Values: to show the values as imported through the staging table.
  • User Entry Values: allows the user to make final changes before inserting or modifying the record.

Note These lines will be created based on the setup:

  • Allow Edit On Order Line will create the "User Entry Values" lines,
  • Show Current Values creates the "Existing Values" lines.

Fact box and Actions

Item Inventory Details factbox

This factbox shows the document(s) that are currently depending on the item

Where Used

The where used actions for Items, Production BOMs and Routings show in which list the item is used.

Carryout Action

This action ill implement the change as set in the ECO, update the item, create substitution, update BOM or Routing or create new versions for the BOM or Routing.
The request page for the CarryOut Action has one option: "Certify". When checked any BOMs or Routings in the ECO will be set to Certified when created.

Get ECR Lines and Applied ECRs

When the ECO is based on an ECR the ECR number is shown in the header of the ECO. If not, or multiple ECRs are related to the ECO, the "Get ECR Lines" action can be used to link these ECRs. The "Applied ECRs" action will show the linked ECRs.

ECO Rejection

Even a pre-approved ECO can contain errors or can be rejected for other reasons. For that scenario the ECO has a Reject ECO action. When using the Reject option a Reason code has to be selected on the Staging Values line. The Rejected ECO will be removed and the EC Staging line will be marked "Rejected" so the information can be communicated back to Engineering.

Notifications

ECM considers 2 types of Notifications:

  1. Notification to ECR User, This note informs the user that the ECR has been completed.
  2. New Revision Code Notification, This note informs users about a new revision code provide that the user has checked this option in My Notifications.
