How to assign data collection lines to master records

You can assign data collection data elements on the data collection lines that belong to a master record. Set up the data elements before performing this activity.

Information is recorded on data sheets generated for one or more master records. These data sheets consist of the data collection lines assigned to the records.

The following steps describe how to assign a data collection line to an item. The same procedure applies to other master records such as locations, customers, vendors, resources, zones, bins, work centres, machine centres, and maintenance assets. For simplicity, only an item is described in detail.

Steps

  1. In the search box, enter Items, and then choose the related link.

  2. Open the item card for the item that will have data collection lines.

  3. On the Navigate tab, in the Master Data group, choose Data Collection Lines. The Data Collection Lines page appears.

On the Data Collection Lines page, you can assign data collection data elements to the master record for the different types of activity in which the record may be involved. The available activities change depending on the type of master record you are viewing.

  4. In the Type field, select the type of activity for which you want to assign data collection lines.

  5. In the Data Element Code field, select the data collection data element you want to assign to the item.

Every data collection data element has an associated data element type. The target values you can enter for an assigned data element depend on the type.

  6. In the area below the lines, fill in the data collection data element's target values.

You can define alerts for every data collection line. Depending on the type of line being entered, additional settings may also be available.

  7. Fill in any remaining fields if necessary.

Notes: You can copy data collection lines to other master records using the copy function. See How to: Copy Data Collection Lines for more information. You can also use a set of lines as a template and assign the set of lines to a master record instead of assigning lines one by one. See How to: Set Up Templates for more information.
