How to: Assign Data Collection Lines to Master Records

You can assign data collection data elements on the data collection lines that belong to a master record. You must have already set up the data elements.

Information is recorded on data sheets that are generated for one or more master records. These data sheets are comprised of the data collection lines that have been assigned to the records.

The following steps describe how to assign a data collection line to an item. The same procedure can be followed for other master records such as locations, customers, vendors, resources, zones, bins, work centers, machine centers, and maintenance assets, but for simplicity only an item is described in detail.

To assign data collection lines to a master record

  1. In the Search box, enter Items, and then choose the related link.
  2. Open the item card for the item that will have data collection lines.
  3. On the Navigate tab, in the Master Data group, choose Data Collection Lines. The Data Collection Lines window appears.

In the Data Collection Lines window, you can assign data collection data elements to the master record for the different types of activity in which the record may be involved. The available activities change depending on the type of master record you are viewing.

  1. Select the type of activity for which you want to assign data collection lines in the Type field.
  2. In the Data Element Code field, select the data collection data element you want to assign to the item.

Every data collection data element has an associated data element type. The target values you can enter for an assigned data element depend on the type.

  1. In the area below the lines, fill in the data collection data element's target values.

You can define alerts for every data collection line. Depending on the type of line being entered, additional settings may also be available.

  1. Fill in any remaining fields, if necessary.
