Using SSCC codes in Food Manufacturing & Distribution

The SSCC code (Serial Shipping Container Code) is an 18-digit number created to uniquely identify a logistics unit (a container). The SSCC code contains the GS1 company prefix, a serial number, a prefix code, and a check digit.

The SSCC code is usually displayed in barcode form, preceded by an Application Identifier. This is a two- or three-digit code that references the type of code. For an SSCC code, the Application Identifier is 00.

To easily print a UCC128 barcode of the SSCC code, the container license plate in Food Manufacturing & Distribution contains the SSCC code preceded by the 00 identifier. The license plate ID remains the number assigned from the number series. The license plate number used in transactions can be set up as an SSCC code.
