Pallet/Container Tracking

The goods that exist within a company's inventory are oftentimes stored on or in some type of container. This allows a company to facilitate movements of larger item quantities. For example, a manufacturing company that produces individual cases of a finished good may stack multiple cases onto a pallet to expedite the movement of items from the production area to storage in a warehouse.

By defining an inventory item as a "container" in Microsoft Dynamics NAV, it becomes possible for the user to assign other inventory items to the container item. Certain characteristics of the items that are stored on or in a container are captured when the container record is created. When a container is assigned to a document, such as a sales or transfer order, information about the items that have been assigned to that container are automatically copied to the document lines.
