How to: Set Up Quality Control Samples
Before we can perfom a Quality Control Sample from an Open Quality Control Activity some setup is needed as on the background we perform a Negative Adjustment in Item Journal.
Quality Control Sample setup in Inventory Setup
On the LOTS tab under Quality Control Samples you can add set up:
- Samples Enabled: defines if you want to writeoff samples or not.
- Suppress Sample Warning: defines if you want to create a warning when people don't writeoff a sample during testing.
- Default Sample Reason Code: the Reason Code to writeoff samples.
- Sample Document No. Series: the document number that is shown in the Item Ledger Entries, when using a specific document number, you can track easily how much inventory is written off by sampling.
Quality Control Sample setup in Source Code Setup
With initializing a new environment this will be done automatically. This setup is not mandatory. Could be handy if you want to track Quality Control Sample entries.
- On tab Inventory an extra field Quality Control Sample is available to add a Source Code
Quality Control Sample setup in Data Collection Lines
On Item, Related, Item, Data Collection Lines 3 fields need to be set:
- Sample Quantity: the sample quantity for the Data Collection Line.
- Sample Unit of Measure: the sample Unit of Measure for the Data Collection Line, must be Item unit of Measure related.
- Combine Samples: decide per Data Collection Line if you want to combine all available Data Collection Lines in one posting.

Quality Control Sample setup in Data Collection Template Lines
On Data Collection, Lines, Data Collection Lines 3 fields need to be set:
- Sample Quantity: the sample quantity for the Data Collection Line.
- Sample Unit of Measure: the sample Unit of Measure for the Data Collection Line. *
- Combine Samples: decide per Data Collection Line if you want to combine all available Data Collection Lines in one posting.
*As you are working in a Template, the Item to which you link the Template on is not known yet, the Sample Unit of Measure will be checked when the Template is linked to an Item.
When the mentioned Sample Unit of Measure is available as Item Unit of Measure the set Sample Unit of Measure will be shown.
Is the Sample Unit of Measure not set as an Item Unit of Measure the Sample Unit of Measure will be empty and needs to be defined manually.
