How to: Create a Batch Order

The Batch Planning Worksheet displays production items and the equipment on which they are manufactured. Production activity for finished goods that share the same intermediate can be grouped together into a single batch order, and related package orders are generated for each finished good. These batch orders can be scheduled and created from the Batch Planning Worksheet.

The lines on the Batch Planning Worksheet are populated according to a batch job that is run manually by the user. Whenever new production demand requirements, such as planned production orders, are created, the Batch Planning Worksheet must be recalculated if this new data is to be included on the lines.

To create a batch order

  1. In the Search box, enter Batch Planning Worksheet, and then choose the related link.
  2. On the Actions tab, in the General group, choose Calculate Worksheet.
  3. In the Calculate Batch Planning Worksheet window, specify any desired filters and options.
  4. Choose the OK button.

The lines in the Batch Planning Worksheet window will display items based on the filters that have been specified in the Calculate Batch Planning Worksheet window.

The intermediate item that has been defined as a finished good's production grouping item is displayed on each line.

  1. Select a line that contains the intermediate item for which you want to create a batch order.

The equipment that has been defined for the finished good and intermediate items on the selected line, as well as the days on which production can be scheduled, are displayed on the Equipment Summary FastTab. The equipment to which production can be scheduled is specified on the associated BOM cards. The production dates are determined by the defined days view.

  1. Select the date on which you want to schedule production.
  2. On the Actions tab, in the General group, choose Plan Item. The Batch Planning - Plan Item window appears.

The Batch Planning - Plan Item window is opened for the selected combination of intermediate item and production date. Any finished good items in which the associated intermediate is consumed are displayed on the lines.

  1. Enter a check mark in the Include field for any finished good you wish to package from the produced intermediate.
  2. Enter the quantity of the included items you want to produce in the Quantity to Produce field. This value will initially default to the quantity required to meet any existing demand for the finished good, but you can change it, if desired.

Both the batch order for the intermediate and the related package orders for any selected finished goods must be assigned to production equipment. The FastTabs at the bottom of the Batch Planning - Plan Item window display the available equipment on which production can be scheduled.

  1. On the Batches FastTab, enter a check mark in the Include field for any equipment on which you wish to produce the intermediate.

The size of the batch is displayed in the Total Batch Quantity field. The system will automatically adjust the size of the batch based on the intermediate's defined planning characteristics. Depending on the batch size, the finished good production quantities can be adjusted further.

If a finished good has a single piece of equipment defined, the system will automatically schedule the full production quantity to that piece of equipment on the Package Orders FastTab. If multiple equipment records are associated to the finished good, the decision as to how production will be scheduled is left to the user.

  1. If necessary, enter the quantity of the finished good you want to schedule to a piece of equipment in the Quantity field. You must assign the full finished good production quantity to one or more pieces of equipment.
  2. On the Actions tab, in the General group, choose Create Orders. The Create Production Orders window appears.
  3. Fill in the fields to assign additional settings to the new production orders, if desired.
  4. Choose the Yes button.

The appropriate quantity fields on the Batch Planning Worksheet window will immediately update to display the impact of the newly created production orders.
