How to: Fill In and Post Material Journals

You can post the materials used for a work order in a material journal. Entries for nonstock items posted in a material journal have no effect on the general ledger. When entries for stock items are posted in a material journal, a negative adjustment is made to the item, which in turn affects the general ledger.

To fill in and post a material journal

  1. In the Search box, enter Material Journal, and then choose the related link.
  2. In the Work Order No. field, on the first line, enter the work order for which you are entering materials.
  3. Fill in the journal lines with the relevant information.
  4. Repeat this procedure for each material journal line you want to post.
  5. After filling in the fields, post the journal. On the Home tab, in the Process group, choose Post.
