Assembly order planning
In Industrial Equipment Manufacturing, you can combine Advanced Project and Resource Management to use assembly orders in a light manufacturing scenario.
Setup
Item
On the Item card, add an assembly time to items with an assembly BOM, the time it takes to assemble one product. Find Assembly Time on the item's Planning tab in the Industrial Equipment Manufacturing group.
Resource task
On the Resource Task Setup page, Assembly Order tab, set Create Task on Assembly Release to create a resource task when the assembly order is released.
Assembly order resources
To process assembly orders as light manufacturing, Project Control Suite uses Resource Management:
- When the assembly order is created from the project planning lines (through Order Planning), the assembly time is extended with the quantity of items to assemble.
- The total assembly time needed is shown on the Planning Details tab.
- Resources specified in the assembly BOM are copied to Resource Allocation in the assembly order header.
- The Resource Allocation Factor shows the number of required resources (minimum one). When fewer resources than required have been specified in Resource Allocation, the number shows in red.
- Use the Resource Allocation action to update the resource allocation in the assembly order. Change the allocation to match the total needed time as per the action.
- When the assembly order is Released, a resource task is created or updated. When resources were specified in Resource Allocation, assignments are added to the resource task.
- When no resources were assigned, use the Start/Stop actions on the resource task to automatically assign the resource that started the task.
The Resource Allocation determines if the resource task is planning controlled. When planning controlled and Back-flush Hours is set, the allocated hours are added automatically to the time sheet.
Assembly order planning details
The Planning Details tab shows the following information:
- When an assembly order is created, the assembly time is extended with the quantity to assemble, resulting in the total time needed for the assembly order.
- In the Resource Capacity Allocated field, specify how many resources are allocated to the assembly order. The more resources allocated, the shorter the assembly time.
- With the needed assembly time, the start date and time are calculated based on the assembly order due date.
