Manufacturing integration: progress registration

The purpose of this functionality is to limit the amount of time posting in a production order. In situations with automated (CNC) operations, it must be possible to automatically post operations, triggered from a Point of Completion.

Progress Registration delivers easier registration and better insight into the progress of production orders by automatically posting normative hours, defining points of completion, and providing task-based progress registration.

Main settings in Manufacturing Setup

Field Description
Action if Point of Completion Select an action to execute when the point of completion is reached. Blank: no option selected. Load Preceding Operations Automatically: the previous operation is automatically inserted the previous operation into the output journal. Load Preceding Operations after User Confirmation: user confirmation is required to insert the previous operation into the output journal.
Base Usage on Normative Quantities When selected, usage is calculated on normative quantity and time as specified in the routing. Additional setup is required as described below.

Create resource tasks for points of completion

When an operation is marked as Point of Completion, a resource task must exist to start and stop:

  1. Set the method of resource task creation in the Resource Task setup, tab Production Orders.

  2. Mark operations in the routing as Point of Completion.

Notes This must be done in the routing because resource tasks are created when the production order is refreshed, or the status changes from Firm Planned to Released.

Set machine and work centers as Post Normative

Use the Post as Normative setting on the machine or work center as the default setting for that center. When the production order is refreshed, or the status changes from Firm Planned to Released, this setting is copied to the production order routing lines. In the production order routing line, you can override the setting by switching it off.

Notes Operations cannot be both Point of Completion and Post Normative. Selecting Point of Completion clears Post Normative. Selecting Post Normative when Point of Completion is set produces an error.

Posting rules

The best practice for Progress Registration is to use the resource task Start/Stop feature in combination with the Machine Time setting on the machine or work center card.

  1. When an operator starts a resource task for an operation marked as Point of Completion, and that operation specifies a machine or work center with the Machine Time setting as Setup, Run Time, or Both, an open entry is created in the Time Input Line Worksheet for the resource time, and an open entry in the Time Output Worksheet for the machine time.

  2. When an operator stops a resource task for an operation marked as Point of Completion, and that operation specifies a machine or work center with the Machine Time setting as Setup, Run Time, or Both, the open entries are set to Completed in the Time Input Line Worksheet and the Time Output Worksheet.

  3. From each of these worksheets, completed entries can be registered or posted respectively.

    Notes

  • Registering and posting can be automated through the Project Queue with processing reports: IEMRM Process Time Input Line and IEMMFG Process Time Output.
  • Post Normative functionality also works through the Output Journal, based on the setting in Manufacturing Setup. When a line for a Point of Completion operation is inserted, Post Normative operations are inserted automatically or after a confirmation. When output lines for the production order already exist, posting from the Time Output Worksheet is blocked.
