How to change container contents
After creating a container, you can put items onto it as part of a warehouse movement, production output posting, warehouse receiving or shipping, a warehouse pick, or a warehouse put-away. This process includes entering information on lot numbers, alternate quantities, catch weight, serial numbers, variant codes, and unit of measure.
As long as the container is not linked to an inbound or outbound source document, it is considered a warehouse container and can only contain a single item. It can however contain several lots and units of measure of that single item. Once a container is associated with an inbound or outbound source document, it becomes a shipping container and can contain different items.
The easiest method of adding items to a container is entering the data directly on the Container card.
Items are considered "loose" as long as they are not part of a container. Put loose items on the container by creating a line on the container card and filling in the Item No., the quantity, and other information as needed.
Add loose items to a container
Steps
- In the search box, enter Containers, and then choose the related link.
- On the Home tab, in the Manage group, choose Edit.
- On the Lines FastTab, fill in the following fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Item No. | Enter the item number of the item you want to put in the container. |
| Variant Code | Specify the variant code if applicable. |
| Lot No. | Specify the lot number if applicable. |
| Serial No. | Specify the serial number if applicable. |
| Quantity | Enter the quantity. |
| Unit of Measure | Change the standard UOM of the item if necessary. |
| Quantity (Alt.) | If the item is a catch weight item, enter the alternate quantity. |
Once a container is associated with an inbound or outbound document, you can also enter different items on the container using this method. The system checks whether the remaining quantity on the document line is equal to or greater than the quantity on the container line. If not, the container contains too much of the item. Unpack the container first so that the quantity on the container equals the quantity on the document line.
