How to assign containers to a warehouse pick

When using warehouse picks, you can link an entire warehouse container and its contents to a "take" line. Use the container lookup on the line. It filters automatically on the correct values in the pick line. Additional information such as lot numbers is transferred from the container to the line.

Once a container is selected, the system performs a quantity check. There are three possible outcomes:

  • The quantity on the line matches the quantity on the container, the license plate ID is entered in the column and the "take" line is complete.
  • The quantity on the line is greater than the quantity on the container, the "take" line is split. The Qty. Outstanding on the original line is set to the quantity on the container. A new line is created with the remainder of the quantity.
  • The quantity on the container is greater than the quantity on the line, you must decide whether to move the container to the "place" line (effectively leaving the remaining container contents in the bin as loose inventory), or leave the container with the remaining items behind in the bin.

On the "place" line, several options are possible when working with containers:

  • No containers in the shipping bin, the Container License Plate field remains empty on the "place" line. The items are treated as loose inventory in the shipping bin.
  • The container from the "take" line is also used on the "place" line. This means the entire container moves to the shipping bin and becomes a shipping container. After registering the first take and place line, this container can be used on several "place" lines for the same pick document. This tells the system the container has moved to the shipping bin.
  • A new container is created in the shipping bin, on the FastTab, under Functions, use the New Container option to create a new container that is automatically placed in the shipping bin. Note that this functionality works only on "place" lines.

Automatically flag the container as "Ship" in a warehouse shipment

A Container Pick and Ship boolean field exists on the Location card:

  • If No (default value), the current functionality applies.
  • If Yes, registering the pick lines with that container automatically flags the container as "ship" on the Warehouse Shipment Container Assignment page. You do not need to take the second step, registering the pick automatically updates the Quantity to Ship field on the warehouse shipment line.
