How to: Assign Containers to a Sales Order

If you are working in a non-warehouse environment, where everything is executed directly from the sales order, you can still use the container functionality.
The pre-requisite is that the content of the container (the single item, because it is a warehouse container and its quantity) is the same as on a sales order line.
Once the container is linked, is it possible to enter more items on the container, because the container is now transformed into a shipping container.

How to use a container on a sales order (Alternative 1):

  • Make sure that an empty container exists in the warehouse to use on this sales order.
  • In the search box, enter Sales Order and then choose the related link.
  • From the list, select the correct Order.
  • On the home tab, in the manage group, choose edit.
  • On the Sales Order header, on the Navigate Tab, choose Containers
  • Enter the Container Type Code and select the correct License Plate from the dropdown list (this should be the empty container).
  • In the search box, enter Containers and then choose the related link.
  • From the list, select the correct Container (this container should be linked to the Sales Order)
  • On the home tab, in the manage group, choose edit.
  • On the Lines fast-tab, the following fields are required:
Field Description
Item No. Fill the item number of the item you wish to put in the container.
Variant Code Specify the variant code if applicable.
Lot No. Specify the lot number if applicable.
Serial No. Specify the serial number if applicable.
Quantity Enter the quantity.
Unit of Measure If necessary change the standard UoM of the item.
Quantity (Alt.) If the item is a catchweight item, enter the alternate quantity.

Please note that if a lot number is not yet filled on the sales line, it will be transferred from the container lines.
If the sales line already contained a lot number, the system will not check whether the lot no. on the container line is equal to the lot no. on the sales line.
On the sales line, the item tracking information is updated with the data from the container-line. The original line will still be available on the sales order line.
