How to assign containers to a sales order
In a non-warehouse environment where everything is executed directly from the sales order, you can still use the container functionality. The prerequisite is that the content of the container, the single item and its quantity, matches the sales order line. Once the container is linked, you can add more items to the container, because it is now transformed into a shipping container.
Steps -Scenario 1
- Make sure an empty container exists in the warehouse to use on this sales order.
- In the search box, enter Sales Order, and then choose the related link.
- From the list, select the correct order.
- On the Home tab, in the Manage group, choose Edit.
- On the sales order header, on the Navigate tab, choose Containers.
- Enter the Container Type Code and select the correct license plate from the dropdown list. This should be the empty container.
- In the search box, enter Containers, and then choose the related link.
- From the list, select the correct container. This container should be linked to the sales order.
- On the Home tab, in the Manage group, choose Edit.
- On the Lines FastTab, fill in the following fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Item No. | Enter the item number of the item you want to put in the container. |
| Variant Code | Specify the variant code if applicable. |
| Lot No. | Specify the lot number if applicable. |
| Serial No. | Specify the serial number if applicable. |
| Quantity | Enter the quantity. |
| Unit of Measure | Change the standard UOM of the item if necessary. |
| Quantity (Alt.) | If the item is a catch weight item, enter the alternate quantity. |
If a lot number is not yet filled on the sales line, it is transferred from the container lines. If the sales line already contains a lot number, the system does not check whether the lot number on the container line matches the lot number on the sales line. On the sales line, the item tracking information is updated with the data from the container line. The original line remains available on the sales order line.
Steps - Scenario 2
- In the search box, enter Containers, and then choose the related link.
- From the list, select an empty container for the correct location or create a new container.
- On the Container card, on the Process tab, choose Assign to Order.
- Enter the order type and the order number, then choose OK.
