What's new in Product Engineering for Dynamics Business Central 2020 Wave 1
Several new features were introduced in this release.
Certified status for measurement templates
Measurement templates now have a status code with four options: New, Under Development, Certified, and Closed. An action changes the status. You can only edit measurement templates in the New and Under Development status. Only Certified templates can be selected from an incident or in the item template setup.
Data capture
In previous versions, data capture (getting additional information in a measurement) was based on BIS connectors. Since the transition to AL, this is no longer possible. This function is replaced with the option to use up to 10 User Defined Fields. In each of these fields, select a table field from the table where the measurement template is based.
Register measurement without check sheet
In a previous version, a check sheet was always mandatory when registering a measurement. When the incident type is Auto pass, a check sheet is no longer required.
Parent questions
You can now link questions to a parent question. In this way, add optional questions to a check sheet, for example, when options are installed on a product.
Mark the Sub Type field on the Question card as Parent to designate that question as a parent question. The parent question can only be of the type Boolean.
Link other questions to the parent question by selecting the code in the Parent Code field. When the parent question is answered with Yes in the check sheet, the linked questions expand.
Additional source templates
In previous versions, only source templates related to the incident type Material could be selected. In this release, additional templates support the Create Incident Wizard, incident types:

- Item Category
- Standard Task
- Service Groups
- Man
- Resource
- Employee
- Machine
- Work Center
- Machine Center
- Method
- Routing
For all incident types, create ad-hoc incidents through the wizard. For the Material incident type, also create in-process incidents by subscribing to an extension point in Dynamics Business Central.

What's new in Product Engineering for Dynamics Business Central 2019 Wave 2
The main change in this version of Product Engineering is the migration from C/AL to AL and the change from Windows client to Web client.
Because the products are now built as extensions, the run-time version of Business Integration Solution is no longer available. This means:
- For Quality Management, an alternative will be developed for retrieving additional data in a measurement.
- For Engineering Change Management, a separate Connectivity Studio license is required when connections with an external engineering system must be made.
Product Engineering is developed as an extension on the Microsoft Base App. When installed in combination with IEM or FOOD, change the dependency to the IEM or FOOD Application.
