What's New in FOOD for D365 Business Central

Changes compared to a previous version of FOOD

Microsoft is continuously adding new features in the application directly and via Feature Management.
Sometimes these are public preview and will be made generally available in future releases, in other cases, they are already general available, and you have the choice to activate them.
Currently, we are not testing compatibility with all new features or combinations.
Once a feature is enabled at the customer environment and in case of any issues or questions related to new standard features and our solutions, kindly contact us via STAEDEAN support.

BC22 - Release Business Central 2023 Wave 1

  1. Aligned with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 Release Wave 1, update 22.0
FOOD has been aligned with version Build 22.0.202307.

Contains new integration events for Batch Planning, see Batch Planning Function events

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central features integrated within FOOD:

    1. Define an invoice posting policy for various users
Microsoft added User setup to define invoice posting policies on Sales and Purchasing.
Within STAEDEAN Food we incorporated this feature where possible.
However, in 3 places we automatically overrule the User setup to Prohibited (Posting Invoice = false) as we don’t want that Users post invoices from this side.
      It is concerning:

      • Order Receiving
      • Order Shipping
      • Commodity Manifests
    2. Undo transfer shipments
Microsoft has added a new feature to transfer orders, namely undo shipments, which we have fully integrated for Container Management, Alternate/Dual Unit of Measure and Catch Weight in transfer orders.
For most Location setup the behavior is the same, when a container or item has been shipped and the undo transfer shipment will be executed the container or item will be moved back to the original location and posting status of the transfer order line will be changed from receive to ship.
When a part of a container will be undone, this part will enter the system as loose inventory, which can be placed on a container in a later stadium within the warehouse.

    3. Preview item journals and 20 other journals and documents before posting
Microsoft has added Posting Preview to a number of journals and documents.
These are mostly for pages based on the item journal (e.g. Item Journal, Consumption Journal, Revaluation Journal, …)
We have added Posting Preview to our pages based upon the item journal:

      • Bin Reclassification Journal
      • Physical Inventory Journal with Tracking
      • Batch Reporting
      • Process Reporting.
We also added this to Repack Orders which are all about posting item ledger entries (transfers and +/- adjustments) and are similar to Assembly Orders (where Microsoft has added Posting Preview).

Remarks on new Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central features:

    1. Easier to create opening balances for item tracked inventory by adding Item Tracking on Lines.
Within STAEDEAN Food we disabled this new feature as we already have easy lot entry functionality in Item Journal pages and many documents throughout the system as Microsoft only added this to the Item Journal.

BC21 - Release Business Central 2022 Wave 2

  1. Aligned with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2022 Release Wave 2, update 21.0
FOOD has been aligned with version Build 21.0.202212.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central features integrated within FOOD:

    1. Promoted Action Groups and Action References
Microsoft changed from old “Promoted” action properties to the new “Promoted” action groups in the 2022 Wave 2 release, which affected over 160 STAEDEAN Food pages. Microsoft made a Visual Studio Code Action available to make the change “Automatically”.
As STAEDEAN we decided not to group actions when there were 3 or less promoted actions on one page.
Also the Split Button feature is used to promote the usual choice.
Another change encountered is the naming of the groups, Microsoft uses Home and Process for same action groups which depends on the type of the page, which STAEDEAN can’t interfere.
This means that on some pages the Process group is now named Home.
Be aware that users could comment on this.
    2. Make entry variant codes required
Microsoft added the new feature “Make entry variant codes required” in the 2022 Wave 2 release.
STAEDEAN made adjustments to support this feature in:
      • Container Management
      • Repacking
      • Commodities
      • Food Anywhere processes

Remarks on new Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central features:

Behavior changes due to Auto-save as you work.
Microsoft added the new feature “Auto-save with every field save” in the 2022 Wave 2 release, when this is enabled changes (OnModify) made by the user will be saved immediately.
This has resulted in Business Central responding differently to alerts and errors as users are used to.
Also STAEDEAN is not able to change this behavior by adjusting code.
Therefore we advise not to enable this feature, also Microsoft will provide an update in the future to turn the Auto-save off.
Of course, users may use this feature if they want to, but STAEDEAN cannot adjust the changed behavior if users complain about it.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central features integrated within FOOD:

Although not new, integrated in 2020, now some “Post & Print” functionality of Food has been changed to “Post & Send”, in line with earlier Microsoft adjustments.

“Post and Send” is added to 3 pages:

    • Order Shipping-Sales
    • Terminal Market Sales Order
    • Term. Market Sales Order List

As a result, on the pages below, “Post and Print” has been marked pending obsolete:
